The closed trial of journalist Gershkovich on espionage charges will begin on June 26
The Sverdlovsk Regional Court received a criminal case against US citizen Evan Gershkovich, accused of espionage. Lenta.ru was informed about this by the press service of the court.
The trial will be held behind closed doors, chaired by Judge Andrei Mineev. The first meeting is scheduled for June 26.
On June 13, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office reported that The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) journalist Gershkovich is accused of collecting data on the activities of the Uralvagonzavod defense enterprise, which produces and repairs military equipment. It follows from the approved indictment in a criminal case of espionage that the American acted on instructions from the CIA. His collection of secret information about the activities of the defense enterprise is documented, the supervisory agency noted.
The correspondent was detained on March 30, 2023 in Yekaterinburg. Earlier, the Moscow City Court extended his arrest until June 30.
