The phenomenon that hit the municipality of São Luiz Gonzaga, in the Missões region, in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, around 10:30 pm this Saturday (15), was classified by the state’s Civil Defense Situation Room, which monitors the effects of floods, such as “microexplosion”. The phenomenon is due to intense instability associated with a stationary cold front, together with the flow of moisture from the north of the country”.
According to Civil Defense, one person was injured. “It was reported that a person was injured while trying to put tarpaulins on his residence, but there is no further information regarding the current condition at this time.”

Early in the morning today, a team from the organization went there to support the administration of the city, known as the state capital of Missionary Music and the capital of Rio Grande do Sul of Rio Grande do Sul.
“According to a survey by the city hall, around 1,200 residences, four schools, two health centers, the building of the municipal Health Department, the Archaeological Museum and several commercial establishments were roofed by strong winds and hail,” he informed, in note, Civil Defense.
The extraordinary minister of Support for Reconstruction of Rio Grande do Sul, Paulo Pimenta, said that he spoke with the mayor of São Luiz Gonzaga, Sidney Brondani, and with councilor Ana Barros to inform that he has been following the storm that occurred in the city, where around 15 thousand people were affected
Pimenta added that the situation deserves all the attention and monitoring at this difficult time in which the state is experiencing.
“I already have a copy of the emergency decree and have contacted the National Civil Defense. President Lula’s government, as always, will be present, supporting São Luiz Gonzaga. I, particularly, as Minister of Support for Reconstruction, am fully available and present to help with whatever is necessary for São Luiz Gonzaga at this time,” he said via audio.

The state Civil Defense reported that microexplosions are a phenomenon that can occur when there are intense storms with many electrical discharges, hail and a lot of water at their base.
“When the cloud can no longer support the amount of water, it ‘dumps’ all this significant volume towards the ground, causing a lot of precipitation to occur in a short time, generally accompanied by gusts of wind that can reach 150 km per hour ”
The conclusion about the type of phenomenon, according to the state Civil Defense, was based on the damage that occurred in São Luiz Gonzaga and the images captured at the location by the Military Brigade. “The RS Situation Room concluded that it was a phenomenon of this nature that occurred in the city”, he reported.
Operations in the municipality rely on the work of garrisons from the Military Brigade, the Military Fire Department, municipal administration teams, in addition to state and municipal Civil Defense teams.
Forecast
Late this Sunday morning (16), the state’s Civil Defense published on its website a warning of intense rain with risk of flooding, strong winds and electrical discharges, valid until 7pm today. He recommended that, in case of emergency, the population call 190/193.
“If you are surprised by severe weather, seek shelter and do not cross floods on foot or even by car. Seek information from your city’s Civil Defense, learn about municipal contingency plans to find out what the risks are and how to act in the event of a disaster in your municipality”, he added.
