Energy consumption in Brazil should end June at 74,399 average megawatts (MWmed), points out the National Electric System Operator (ONS) in the most recent report of the Monthly Operation Program. The amount is 4.2% higher than that recorded in the same month of 2023.
In the Southeast/Central-West, which accounts for more than half of the country’s energy load, the projection is that it will reach 41,648 MWmed, an increase of 3.8% compared to June of last year. In the South, the forecast is 12,575 MWmed, with annual growth of 3.1%.
For the Northeast, the estimate is that consumption will be 12,451 MWmed, an increase of 4.3%, on the same basis of comparison. In the North, the prospect is for a load of 7,725 MWmed, a growth of 8.8%.
In energy generation, the ONS estimates that Influent Natural Energy (ENA) – the amount of water that reaches the reservoirs to be transformed into energy – remains at 54% of the historical average in the Southeast/Central-West. If this scenario is confirmed, the stored volume will reach 67.6% of capacity at the end of the month.
In the South, the estimate is that the ENA will reach 110% of the average, with water levels accumulated in the reservoirs at 81.1% at the end of the period. The forecast for the Northeast is that it will reach 38% of the average, and storage 67.5%. In the North region, the perspective is that ENA will be at 54% of the average in June, with hydroelectric reservoirs at 88.6%.
In view of this scenario, the Marginal Cost of Operation (CMO) for the week of June 15th to 21st was established at R$ 18.01 per megawatt-hour (MWh). The CMO is the cost of producing 1 MWh to serve the National Interconnected System (SIN).
