A 65-year-old man died this Sunday morning while bathing on the beach of Santa Margarida de Roses (Girona), at which time the yellow flag was flying due to waves. This is the first death on Catalan beaches, coinciding with the premiere of the summer campaign.
The 112 emergency telephone number received the notification at 12:00 p.m. from the area’s lifeguards, reporting that they had pulled an unconscious man out of the water whom they had tried to resuscitate, as explained by Protecció Civil in a statement.
The Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) has sent two ground units and a helicopter to the area to continue the resuscitation maneuvers, where members of the Civil Guard have also been deployed.
Civil Protection has recalled the importance of taking extreme precautions on beaches, swimming pools and inland waters this summer and has called to always keep in mind one’s own physical conditions and limitations and avoid overexertion that poses a risk.
