The three local police officers who participated in the arrest of actress María León on October 1, 2022 have requested two years and one day in prison for the Sevillian interpreter as a result of the attitude that she allegedly maintained towards them that morning. The agents, appearing in the case as a private prosecution, demand that conviction for a crime of attack on authority, disobedience and injuries, for which they also request fines of up to 5,400 euros in total.
This document of provisional conclusions, which has been reported Seville newspaper and which this newspaper has been able to confirm, was presented last week after the Court of Instruction number 8 of Seville rejected the request for mediation raised by León to avoid going to trial. Previously, the Seville Court had also rejected the appeal filed by the actress against the order of that same court in which the instructor maintained that “there are sufficient reasons” to attribute to her the crimes of attack against an agent of the authority and another minor of injuries, and gave credibility to the account of the events recorded in the Local Police report and in the statement that the agents presented to it.
This account of the events is similar to the one that the private prosecution includes in its report of qualifications. At 4:45 on October 1, 2022, León and other people surrounded a breathalyzer control van, after some Seville Local Police officers had introduced another member of the group who was riding a bicycle and who had been stopped into it. for driving on the road with a crystal glass in hand. When one of the police officers asked them to move away and respect the safe distance, León “began to shout, rebuke the officers and question their intervention, stating that it is totally disproportionate.” The actress began to record the scene with her mobile phone and although the agents warned her that she could not take images of them, she did it again and approached the van.
When another police officer ordered her to leave the door of the vehicle, she replied: “You fool, what are you? sheriff? The agent asked her to identify herself, León indicated that she did not have her ID and the police officer told her that they were going to take her to the Headquarters to be identified. “Freely accessing and freely accompanying” one of the agents. Once inside the police car, and when the driver began to maneuver, another member of the group leaned against the hood, forcing him to stop. The rest surrounded the vehicle and one of them opened the door “making it easier” for León to escape. When she was caught up by the police who were chasing her, the actress punched her in the right cheek and kicked her in the left leg while she yelled at her: “Daughter of a bitch, you’re a bitch,” and León fell to the ground. According to the car, the agents tried to pick her up, but they were pushed by the rest of the group and the interpreter managed to get away again. When she was finally detained again by the same agent she had attacked, another of León’s colleagues began to pull at her bulletproof vest. Finally, the artist was arrested.
She denied the attack and, in turn, filed a lawsuit against the police officers who arrested her, whom she accused of illegal detention and injuries. The judge rejected it when she understood that, in her writing, León, who provided a series of videos of what happened that night, did not endorse the reported facts.
In addition to her, the police are demanding a prison sentence of two years and one, respectively, for two other members of the group who are also accused of attacking an officer and causing injuries. The agent whom the actress attacked when trying to arrest her also claims compensation of 150 euros for the physical injuries suffered and 1,000 euros in compensation for moral damages derived from the “public importance” of the accused and the videos that were published on social networks and other media that caused “insecurity” in the exercise of their police activity.
The Prosecutor’s Office has not yet sent its qualification letter. In conversation with this newspaper, the legal representative of the agents explained that the sentences could be reduced if there was agreement between the parties.
