The Somali National Army forces continue their successful military operations against fighters and leaders of the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement, causing heavy losses to the terrorist organization during the recent period. The government announced a few days ago the killing of 47 members of the movement’s fighters in an operation in the “Ail Tir” area in the center of the country. Military vehicles and equipment that were in the possession of the terrorists were confiscated.
The expert in African affairs, Rami Zuhdi, stressed the importance of the qualitative military strikes directed by the Somali government against Al-Shabaab strongholds and fighters during the past two months, which enhances the chances of eliminating the organization and limits its ability to carry out operations against civilians and members of the army and police.
Zuhdi told Al-Ittihad: The Somali government is adopting a comprehensive strategy in its war against the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement, which includes security, intellectual, economic, and media aspects, which has contributed to directing many painful blows to the terrorist organization.
In turn, the Somali researcher and analyst, Sharhabeel Ahmed Ismail, explained that the Somali army intensified its military operations against Al-Shabaab elements during the months of April, May and June, which strengthens the government’s efforts to restore security and stability, especially in the liberated areas.
Sharhabeel stated in a statement to Al-Ittihad that the losses incurred by the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement during the military operations carried out by the army contribute significantly to weakening the organization, especially with the killing of many of its prominent leaders and the loss of some of its strategic strongholds.
He pointed to the success of the army forces in liberating large areas of areas that were under the control of the movement’s fighters, especially in the central and southern regions, stressing the importance of the support and assistance that the Somali army receives from various groups of the people, in addition to the importance of Arab and international support.
