After giving a performance of ups and downs in the 3-2 victory over Mexico last Sunday (9), the team led by coach Dorival Júnior once again showed difficulties in controlling actions against a United States team that is coming off a defeat 5-1 defeat by Colombia, one of the Brazilian team’s opponents in the first phase of the continental competition.
The problem of giving space to the opposing team became evident just four minutes into the first half, when midfielder Musah was free to hit a very strong shot from the edge of the area that hit the crossbar of the goal saved by goalkeeper Alisson.
The United States also had difficulties in marking, and gave space to Brazil’s fast attack, which created good opportunities with Rodrygo, in the sixth minute, and Vinicius Júnior, in the thirteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth minutes.
After trying so hard, Brazil opened the scoring in the seventeenth minute, when Bruno Guimarães recovered a ball in the attacking field and passed it to Raphinha, who served Rodrygo, who crossed the ball to beat goalkeeper Turner. But the United States didn’t take long to catch up. The referee awarded a free kick near the edge of the penalty area, which, in the 25th minute, striker Pulisic took with skill, low, to beat goalkeeper Alisson.
The confrontation remained open, with opportunities from side to side, but neither team had the competence to change the score again in the remainder of the first half. After the break, the coach made some changes, such as the addition of center forward Endrick, but Brazil continued to do very poorly and equality lasted until the final whistle.
