Brazil exported 24.1 million tons of processed food from January to April 2024, an increase of 33.6% compared to the same period last year. The value reached US$ 20.1 billion, 18.8% above that recorded in 2023, as shown by a monthly survey by the Brazilian Food Industry Association (Abia), in advance of the Broadcast Agro.
The most prominent items, considering the values, were animal proteins, with US$ 7.6 billion (+5.6%), sugar products, with US$ 5.7 billion (+107.8%), bran soy and others, with US$ 3.6 billion (+1.7%), oils and fats, with US$ 706 million (-46.1%) and vegetable preparations (juices, sweets, fruit preserves, vegetables and vegetables), with US$973 million (+14.5%).
The 22 countries of the Arab League assumed the position of the main export market for processed foods in the first four months of the year, with US$ 4.1 billion, an increase of 48% compared to the same period in 2023, which corresponded to a share of 20.3% of the total. The main products were sugar, with US$ 2.08 billion (+104.8%), and animal proteins, with US$ 1.8 billion (+30.1%).
For the Asian bloc, China stands out, with US$2.56 billion between January and April 2024 (-1.3%), and with a share of 12.7%. Highlights include animal proteins, with US$ 2.24 billion (-3.2%) and sugars, with US$ 139 million (+118.7%).
The European Union, with US$2.51 billion (-9.2%), had a share of 12.4% in the first four months, especially vegetable preparations, with US$438 million (+24%); soybean meal, with US$ 1.4 billion (-9.6%) and animal protein, US$ 358 million (-18.2%).
Annual production – Brazil’s food industry has 38,000 companies that produce 270 million tons of food per year, Abia reported. Of this total, 73% is destined to supply the domestic market, while the remaining 27% is exported to 190 countries, meeting inspection and regulation standards for these different destinations.
In 2023, Brazil consolidated itself as the world’s largest exporter of industrialized products in volume, in addition to being recognized as the largest exporter and the second largest producer of beef and poultry in the world. The industry processes 60.9% of everything produced in the field and, as an illustration, when analyzing production of animal origin, this proportion increases and can exceed 95%. Industrial production of foods of animal origin is also significant in exports, equivalent to 38.3% in 2023.
