Ex-mayor of Kupiansk Matsegora died in hospital after an assassination attempt
Former mayor of Kupyansk, Kharkov region, Gennady Matsegora, died in hospital after an assassination attempt in Stary Oskol, Belgorod region, without regaining consciousness. This was reported by the Mash Telegram channel on June 11.
As Russian military correspondent Yuri Kotenok noted in Telegram-channel, doctors fought for the life of the ex-official for several days.

On June 11, it became known that in the part of the Zaporozhye region controlled by Kyiv, an attempt was made on the life of former city council official Maxim Denshchin. The man was reportedly shot four times in the stomach. He died from his injuries.

In Ukraine, Matsegora was suspected of treason due to support for Russia, as reported by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova on February 28, 2022. According to her, the mayor of Kupyansk at the beginning of a special military operation provided the Russian military with transport, housing, water and fuel.
In April 2022, Matsegora said that his daughter was detained in Ivano-Frankivsk by members of the Security Service of Ukraine. After that, he began to receive anonymous calls with an offer to come in person and receive some task, the essence of which was not disclosed.
The official turned for help to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, to the then Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova, as well as to various international organizations, which, according to him, ignored the requests.
