Bastianini, tense stories with the Race Direction
To the 13th lap the Montmelò stewards decided to penalize with a Long Lap Penalty Enea Bastianiniwho was in ninth position at the time.
The Italian had suffered an energetic overtaking attempt by Alex Marquez, who had essentially accompanied him off the track and forced him to cut Turn 2.
However, Bastianini did not want to serve the penaltythus being sanctioned first with a double Long Lap Penalty, then with a Ride Through and finally with a 32″ penalty at the finish line, which saw him drop from 9th to 18th place in the standings.
Bastianini’s explanation
The Ducati rider admitted to Sky Sports of having deliberately ignored the reports: “I passed Alex Marquez on the straight, we braked, and before entering the corner he threw me out and I had to cut the chicane. I expected them to give him an LLP and instead it got to me. I I decided not to do it because in my opinion it wasn’t the right choice. It was probably wrongbut I didn’t want to do it in the heat of the moment.”
Bastianini then recounted the justification that the Commissioners gave him at the end of the grand prix: “When we went up to Race Control with Tardozzi, they couldn’t say anything. They evaluated it differently, they thought I had made money with that maneuver, but in reality I wasted time“. In fact, Ducati demonstrated that the rider lost half a second in that situation.
