“Putin’s Voice” is once again causing a stir with a pompous statement on Russian state television. The focus is on a landmark in the USA.
Moscow – Vladimir Solovyov, a media personality and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is known for his propaganda and sometimes expansive demands on Russian state television. As fighting in the Ukraine war rages on and Russian troops suffer a milestone of bitter losses, “Putin’s Voice” recently suggested that Russia should consider a missile attack on the torch on the Statue of Liberty in New York City.
Amid Moscow’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Solovyov spoke about the expansion of Russia’s war, claiming that not only Ukraine but also parts of Europe such as Poland and Finland are part of Russia’s territory.

But while a sudden end to the war in Ukraine appears to be on the cards, one topic dominated the recently broadcast episode of his show. Solovyov and his interlocutors discussed Russia sending missiles over the United States and Europe. “I propose to send a hypersonic missile over the mainland United States, but not at the United States, but over it,” said Russian political scientist Dmitry Evstafyev, according to an excerpt from the show translated on Saturday by Anton Gerashchenko, a former adviser in the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, and posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“But putting out the torch on the Statue of Liberty, eh?” replied “Putin’s voice” Solovyov, laughing. “That’s a bit exaggerated,” replied Evstafiev. “How about we test-fire it from the Atlantic to the Pacific and see what happens?”
Missile flyover over the USA: Solovyov guest has other idea on Russian state television
Dmitry Kulikov, another Russian political scientist, proposed his own idea. “We usually launch missiles from west to east. We could do it the other way round. It will be launched and fly west. It will land over Europe,” he said.
The United States and most of Europe are part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). If Russia were to attack just one of the 32 member states, it would risk war with all of them, according to Article 5 of the military alliance’s treaty. However, Putin said in December 2023 that Moscow had “no interest” in fighting the NATO.
Provocations from Russia: NATO states want “drone wall” on eastern border with Putin
As Russian propagandists theorize about how Moscow can further intimidate the West, the six NATO countries bordering Russia have unveiled a plan to build a “drone wall” on their eastern border to contain the Russian threat.
The wall is to stretch from “Norway to Poland” and is intended to protect against “provocations” from Russia. According to Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnes Bilotaite, the plan is to use “drones and other technologies to protect our borders,” she told the BNS news agency on Friday after talks with colleagues from Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Norway and Poland.
Containing the threat from Russia: Lithuanian minister speaks of a “completely new thing”
Bilotaite explained that the project was not only about preventing “provocations by unfriendly countries” but also about fighting smuggling, apart from provocations and threats from Russia. In addition to drones to monitor the borders, anti-drone systems would also be used. The Interior Minister spoke of a “completely new thing”. She did not give a timetable for the project. The reason for strengthening the borders is security concerns as a result of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
Shortly before the announcement of the “drone wall”, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was also extremely critical of recent Russian provocations on the borders with Estonia, Finland and Lithuania. “Russia is stirring up trouble at the borders of the European Union,” the Green politician said on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
