North Korea announced offensive countermeasures in response to actions of South Korea and the United States
The DPRK army is ready to take measures in response to provocations by the United States and South Korea that threaten the sovereignty of North Korea. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense of the DPRK Kim Gang Il, transmits Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
He clarified that we are talking about increasing violations of the maritime border. In this regard, Kim Gang Il warned that measures could be implemented “at any time, whether on water or on land.” The KCNA report noted that North Korea’s top military leadership on May 24 ordered the country’s army to “take offensive countermeasures in response to the above-mentioned provocative actions of enemies against the sovereignty” of the DPRK.
In April, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Washington and its allies had discussed options for creating a new mechanism to monitor North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and wanted to monitor it together with South Korea.
