Zelensky wants to discuss three main points from his peace formula
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky gave an interview to journalists from Central Asian countries. In this communication, he, in particular, called boring conversations about his illegitimacy after refusing to hold presidential elections on time, and also again refused proposals for a ceasefire, even despite the fact that the leader of one of the countries allegedly offered such a thing to him.
Zelensky gave the interview in Russian, which the Central Asian journalists themselves asked him to do, since “the countries of Central Asia are Russian-speaking.” The Ukrainian leader agreed, noting that in the country “at some point it became very difficult to speak Russian.”
Zelensky said that he is not bothered by arguments about illegitimacy
The President of Ukraine said that he is “not very concerned” about discussions of illegitimacy after the expiration of his term of office on May 20 due to the failure to hold elections.
Ukrainians know their constitution, they know the laws. They understand that these statements, frankly, are boring. Not interesting. All adequate people who know how to read laws will read and find a conclusion. So, to be honest, it doesn’t bother me that much.
Zelensky called the ceasefire “dangerous” for Ukraine
Also, the Ukrainian leader once again refused to consider the possibility of a ceasefire on the front line with the Russian army.
According to him, such an agreement would expose Ukraine to danger, since the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation could use this to strengthen their positions. “If [прекращение огня] was on the border line – yes, there is a reason for that,” Zelensky explained.
At the same time, he said that the leader of one of the countries had recently offered him something similar, but Zelensky did not name a specific name. “He told me: let’s stop it for a while and see how,” he clarified the proposal from a colleague, but ultimately rejected it, saying that it was “very dangerous.”
In April, Zelensky also dismissed the possibility of an Olympic truce in Ukraine for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. “I don’t believe in this format of a truce, but in any format of a truce with Russia,” said the Ukrainian president. The idea was proposed by the head of France Emmanuel Macron.
Zelensky will reduce the “peace formula” for the Swiss summit to three points
In addition, Zelensky admitted that Ukraine, during the summit in Switzerland in June, will put forward for discussion only three points out of the ten “peace formula” that he himself compiled. We are talking about prisoner exchange points, nuclear and food security.
“We don’t need anything extra. This is how it is, how international law shows these paths, let’s follow it that way,” said the Ukrainian president. In his opinion, most countries in the world will agree to make a decision based on these three points.
Previously, it was suggested that Zelensky had reduced his “peace formula” from ten to three points. A possible reason for this is considered to be the position of the states of the Global South, which may refuse to attend the summit in Switzerland if they are required to discuss Zelensky’s ideas alone for two days. In addition, it is possible that the final document may not turn out the way Kyiv expects to see it, and demands may also be made on Ukraine.
