Communities participating in the National Agrarian Reform Program (PNRA) in the Amazon will be able to receive payment for environmental services for activities that result in the reduction of deforestation and the conservation of native vegetation. Settlements will be able to register from June 15th.
The initiative is part of the Union with Municipalities program for the Reduction of Deforestation and Forest Fires in the Amazon, which will pay for actions that impact at least 25% in reducing deforestation in 70 priority municipalities.

According to the extraordinary secretary for Deforestation Control at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, André Lima, R$60 million in resources will be allocated from the Green Climate Fund (Green Climate Fund – GCF).
Rules
Last Wednesday (22), Lima made a presentation of the call for proposals that will be published with the rules for the participation of settlements.
Among the requirements, communities must have at least 50% remaining area of native vegetation, active registration in the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) and not have embargoes from the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama).
“To avoid double payments, we will prioritize settlements that are not covered by the Bolsa Verde program”, highlighted Lima.
Payments will be made proportionally to the percentage of reduction in deforestation in accordance with the rate of the Satellite Monitoring of Deforestation in the Legal Amazon Project (Prodes) of 2023, compared to 2022. Each registered settlement will receive R$1,800 where the reduction in deforestation is between 25% and 50%, R$2,400 for a reduction from 51% to 75%, and R$3,600 when the reduction in deforestation is above 75%.
Payments will occur in two installments, and the first will begin to be paid on July 1st. The second installment will come out in 2025.
