Rubem Novaes presided over the institution during the Bolsonaro government; states that his objective is to convince Paulo Guedes to join the party
The former president of Banco do Brasil during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Rubem Novaes, announced that he is joining the New. The economist gave the information in an interview with the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo published this Friday (May 24, 2024). However, she has ruled out a candidacy of her own for the moment.
Asked why he did not choose PL, Bolsonaro’s party, Novaes said that the acronym “it’s more mixed”.
“Not all PL members have this vision that I have, especially in terms of a liberal economy“, he said.
The former president of Banco do Brasil still defended the choice by stating that he appreciates “especially the combativeness of the New in relation to the authoritarian position of our Federal Supreme Court today”.
“The dominant thought in the New has everything to do with mine. He is extremely ethical, liberal in economics and moderately conservative. I decided, for the first time in my life, to join a party.”added Novaes.
NOVO AND PAULO GUEDES
In addition to his membership, Novaes said that his main objective is to convince former Economy Minister Paulo Guedes to join Novo and run for the Senate in Rio de Janeiro.
“I keep asking him to join Novo and become a candidate. And I can’t ask him and not do the same. I’m also signing up to put more pressure on Guedes”he said.
The economist also mentioned that he uses the examples of Roberto Campos and Delfim Netto, who moved from the Executive to the Legislative, as arguments to persuade Guedes.
“Guedes doesn’t close the door completely, but he says he has projects in the private sector and that this gives him great personal fulfillment”he stated.
