The airlines Azul and Gol announce a commercial cooperation agreement that will connect their airline networks in Brazil through a codeshare. The partnership includes exclusive domestic routes, that is, operated by one of the two companies and not the other.
The agreement also involves loyalty programs, allowing Azul Fidelidade and Smiles members to accumulate points or miles in the program of their choice when purchasing flights included in the codeshare.
In a statement sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), Azul’s president, Abhi Shah, assesses that the agreement will bring enormous benefits to customers. “With Azul’s highly connected network serving most cities in Brazil and Gol’s strong presence in the main Brazilian markets, our complementary offers will offer customers a wide travel option,” he says.
According to the companies, consumers will be able to benefit from the commercial partnership from the end of June, when the offer will be available on both companies’ sales channels. Azul and GoL have around 1,500 daily takeoffs. The agreement will create more than 2,700 travel opportunities with just one connection.
“Gol already offers more than 60 different commercial agreements with many global partner airlines and we are looking forward to expanding this benefit within Brazil as well”, highlights Celso Ferrer, CEO of GoL, in the statement.
Gol, founded in 2001, maintains alliances with American Airlines and Air France-KLM, and offers customers several codeshare and interline agreements. The company has a team of 13,700 aviation professionals and operates a standardized fleet of 142 Boeing 737 aircraft.
Azul offers 1,000 daily flights to more than 160 destinations. With an operational fleet of more than 180 aircraft and more than 16 thousand crew members, the company has a network of 300 direct routes.
