Matriculation exams|The Matriculation Examination Board came to an exceptional solution for the mathematics assignment.
LONG for the matriculation exam in mathematics slipped error has caused a lot of discussion during the spring.
In problem number five of the mathematics exam, there was a conflict between the verbal formulation and the mathematical assignment. This confused the students and made some students wish that the assignment in question would be excluded from the assessment.
This was not done, and now the Student Examination Board (YTL) has come to a solution, according to which you can get full marks in the assignment if you noticed a mistake in the verbal assignment and realized, for example, to check the answer with the third equation.
The solution was reached by the secretary general Tiina Tähkän included because the high school curriculum also includes such mathematical situations.
“A situation where the equation does not have a single X and Y solution is mathematically quite a normal situation.”
In the originals the grading guidelines said that you could get full marks for solving two equations. In the final evaluation, I got a full 12 points for handling three equations.
However, according to Tähkä, this cannot be interpreted as meaning that the correct answer would not have earned full points.
“Here, it is required that the answer with full points corresponds to the mathematical assignment.”
14,400 students took the long math test this year. Only about ten percent of them got a full 12 points for that task. About 80 percent got ten points for the task.
Since the majority did not get full points for the incorrect task, the score limit of the exam was reduced by two points. This means that the task does not count the examinee’s grade, but he gets the same grade as he would have gotten otherwise.
Spike says that YTL tried to find a solution that would be fair to everyone. According to Tähkä, the solution made now secures the situation of the test takers who have solved the task based on the verbal formulation.
“At the same time, credit has been given to those examinees who have survived this more demanding mathematical assignment than intended.”
The matter was reported earlier on Thursday Over.
