A German citizen is being tried in St. Petersburg for transporting gummy bears containing drugs.
The Moscow District Court of St. Petersburg began to consider the criminal case of German citizen Patrick Schebel, who brought gummy bears with cannabis to Russia. The representative of the joint press service of the city courts, Daria Lebedeva, reported this to Lenta.ru.
The foreigner is charged with Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Smuggling of narcotic substances”). He faces up to seven years in prison with a fine of one million rubles. He is in custody after being detained upon arrival at Pulkovo Airport.
In February, Customs reported a passenger flying in with a backpack containing a hard bag with a picture of a cannabis leaf and the words Fink green goldbears on it. Inside were six black-brown jelly bears with a pungent odor and weighing 20 grams.
A rapid test showed the presence of a prohibited drug in the sweets – tetrahydrocannabinol. The German explained that he bought the bears in his homeland in order to eat them during the flight for a restful sleep. He flew to St. Petersburg to visit a friend via online correspondence.
