The Civil Guard has dismantled the largest laboratory of speed (methamphetamine) from Europe, which was in San Sebastián, as reported by the armed institute this Wednesday. Eight people have been arrested in the so-called Pecueco operation, and the agents have seized around 800 kilograms of speed, 180,000 euros in cash and twelve vehicles. The laboratory in which the drug was manufactured was located in San Sebastián. The agents managed to reach him thanks to the arrest, in June of last year in Navarra, of a 42-year-old man who was transporting 40 kilograms of methamphetamine in his vehicle. He was detected at the Zuasti toll, in one of the usual controls carried out in the weeks before the San Fermín festivities. The operation has been directed by the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard in Navarra, with the support of the commands of Guipúzcoa, Asturias, León and Madrid.
The arrest of the man, a resident of Bilbao, began an investigation that led agents to locate several points where these narcotics were trafficked. In February of this year, a truck was intercepted in the Navarrese town of Berrioplano that was transporting 42 kilos of speed and, a few days later, the Civil Guard located and detained another truck with another 42 kilos of this drug in Zarauz (Guipúzcoa). The investigators then found the laboratory where the methamphetamine was manufactured and packaged, located in offices on the outskirts of San Sebastián. From there the drugs were distributed throughout the national territory.
The operation has been divided into two phases. The first experienced its climax on April 17, when the police force carried out simultaneous searches in the laboratory and in the homes of the “cook” and another member of the network. In this phase, around 600 kilograms of speed and numerous precursor substances for its production were intervened. In addition, 160,000 euros in cash were found in the home of one of the two detainees.
In a second phase, investigators focused on the arrest of the transporters. At the beginning of May, a man was intercepted with 18,000 euros in his vehicle. He was arrested and brought to justice. A few days later, two more searches were carried out at the homes of members of this organized group who resided in Madrid. In one of them, more than eight kilos of MDMA and multiple tools for the production of narcotic substances were found. The so-called coves were also found in their vehicles, the hiding places that drug traffickers create inside these cars or trucks to hide the drugs.
The Civil Guard of Navarra announced this Wednesday the results of the operation, which concluded with the arrest of eight men between 35 and 58 years old in Navarra, Guipúzcoa, León and Madrid, and with the seizure of 770.9 kilos of speed, 8.2 kilos of MDMA, 500 grams of hashish, precursor substances (75 kilograms of caffeine, 88 liters of liquid amphetamine and 800 liters of various acids and alcohols), 185,355 euros in cash, two knives of 20 and 21 centimeters blade, a gas-powered revolver and 12 vehicles.
