New line of support for the Thousand Women Program focuses on the professional training of women who work in domestic work and care
The Ministry of Education, through the Secretariat of Professional and Technological Education, launched on April 30 the new line of support for the Thousand Women Program: Domestic Work and Care. The action aims to initially serve 900 women in professional qualification courses in the area of domestic work and care at the Federal Institutes.
The new support line for Mulheres Mil is an interministerial action that involves 6 ministries:
- Development and Social Assistance;
- Family and Fight Against Hunger;
- Human Rights and Citizenship;
- Women;
- Racial equality;
- Work and Employment.
The objective is to certify knowledge and professionally qualify these workers in complementary areas, in addition to taking courses on labor and social rights, combating violence and gender and racial inequalities, care economy, content recomposition and digital inclusion.
With an investment of R$1.4 million by MEC, the courses are held in 7 Brazilian cities
- Aracajuat the Federal Institute of Sergipe;
- saviorat the Federal Institute of Bahia;
- Saint Louisat the Federal Institute of Maranhão;
- Nilópolis and Mosqueat the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro;
- São Pauloat the Federal Institute of São Paulo;
- Recifeat the Federal Institute of Pernambuco.
The selection of candidates was carried out jointly with the unions linked to Fenatrad (National Federation of Domestic Workers), a partner in the project.
The pedagogical project of the courses was built collectively, with the aim of meeting the specificities of this audience. In addition to welcoming students, there is assistance with transportation and food costs.
Among the courses offered by the Federal Institutes are elderly care, child care, salting and leisure activity monitoring. Classes start this month in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro; and, in May, in the other States.
Thousand Women: Domestic Work and Care – the target audience profile is female domestic workers; Most of them have a low level of education and are in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability. This line of support for the program also focuses on helping those responsible for caring for children or family members and taking care of the home. The students live in the municipalities covered by the initial offer or in nearby regions. The project is part of the National Care Policy and Plan, an initiative that is under construction by the federal government.
Thousand Women – O programcreated in 2011, was relaunched by the MEC in 2023, with the aim of increasing education and promoting the socio-productive inclusion of women in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability, through the offering of professional qualification courses.
