Do you remember the Mini Aceman study model? That prototype was unveiled two years ago. We wonder what else Mini has changed on the car in those two years, because the production version looks exactly like the study model. Doesn't matter, because now it's here: Mini's very first crossover. If you prefer to speak in Mini range language, then this is the car between the Cooper and the Countryman.
The Aceman has an improved suspension with a new damping system and improved anti-roll bars. This should provide more comfort, but also sporty handling. There are two powertrain options. To start with, there is the Aceman E. This version has a 42.5 kWh battery that provides 310 kilometers of range and the 184 hp and 290 Nm strong electric motor makes it possible to go to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds from a standstill. Not quick enough? Then choose the Mini Aceman SE.
Specifications of the Mini Aceman SE
The SE also gets one electric motor, but it produces 218 hp and 330 Nm. The same sprint as before takes 7.1 seconds and the top speed is 170 km/h (compared to 160 km/h in the E). The battery grows with the power to 54.2 kWh. That would take you 406 kilometers. Charging to 80 percent can be done in half an hour in both the E and Aceman SE.
You can order the Mini crossover in four different versions: Essential, Classic, Favored and JCW. The differences are mainly in the color combinations of the paint. The John Cooper Works version is of course a bit more special with, among other things, JCW logos, larger wheels, sports seats and a more aggressive rear spoiler. But unfortunately it is not faster.
The interior of the Mini Acemen is recognizable
Inside, the three main things in every modern Mini remain intact: a 9.4-inch circular OLED display, fun toggle switches and a nice steering wheel. Depending on which version you choose, you can play with the fabric and color of the upholstery. Mini also optionally incorporates a panoramic roof for some extra daylight. In terms of storage space, there is a 300-liter trunk that grows to 1,000 liters when you fold the rear seat (almost completely) flat.
The star of the interior has to be Spike. This is Mini's virtual four-legged friend who assists you. Spike can help with navigation, playing music and parking. If you often visit the same parking garage, Spike can save this and automatically lower the side window when you have to show your pass or draw a ticket. It would also be nice if Spike could clean your windows, but he doesn't.
You can be the first to order a Mini Aceman sometime in June. In the Netherlands you will then pay at least 38,990 euros, from which a further 2,950 euros in subsidy will be deducted. This also means that in terms of price it falls between the electric Cooper (35,990 euros) and the electric Countryman (43,490 euros). The prices in Belgium are not yet known, but they will be between 34,500 euros and 46,250 euros.
