From January 1, 2025, vans will be unaffordable in our country, but where can you go for an affordable one this year?
The government has it in mind for the entrepreneur! From January 1, 2025, entrepreneurs will also have to pay the BPM on delivery vans. We already wrote about it last week in response to the BNR National Auto Show where extensive calculations were made as to how much more expensive such a van will become next year.
BPM on your company car
Just briefly, what's going on. Nowadays, a new van does have BPM, but if you use the company car for business purposes, you do not have to pay it. So that will be different from next year.
In addition, the BPM on company cars will no longer be phased out over five years, as is currently the case, but over 25 years. This means that the government also closes the back door to the import of young used cars from abroad. While a two or three year old van is still interesting, because most of the BPM has already been removed, that is also a thing of the past.
So buy now!
So, it's buy, buy, buy! This year that is. But is there anything still for sale? That's what we're diving into today for you hardworking, enterprising and interested Autobloggers.
In order not to be at the mercy of the gods (think of smart traders who hold on to the stock for as long as possible and then still want to sell too expensive), it is important to take action in time. That can save a lot of money.
Because on average a BPM amount of 12,000 euros will have to be paid per vehicle. If we look at the starting price excl. VAT and BPM of, for example, a new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, that is an additional fifty percent.
Order new
First of all for those who want to order new now. We called around to the usual suspects for a new van with a diesel engine. Some cars can no longer be ordered and are completely sold out. But for those who want to avoid the BPM on their company car, it is still possible this year.
First of all, Volkswagen. It is no longer possible to order a Transporter from Volkswagen. It will still be delivered throughout the year, but if you think at this moment that you want to order one before 2024, then you are too late. The Caddy, the Crafter and the ID.Buzz are still available, although the latter commercial vehicle is not as sensitive to BPM.
Stellantis, with Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat and Opel logos on the nose, has foresight requested extra capacity from the van factory so that they can continue to work hard in the remaining months of the year.
The fifth of the quintuplets comes from the same factory but with a Toyota logo. Toyota's Dutch importer also indicates that it has anticipated the higher demand and has therefore ordered extra capacity from the same factory as the brands above.
Ford has also committed to additional deliveries in 2024. In addition to an extensive and easily available electric range, there is currently sufficient supply for this year for all models that are available with a diesel engine. But the Ford spokesperson warns that some haste is required for those who want to drive in 2024. We read that in the distance they see the end of availability getting closer.
At Mercedes-Benz there is also foresight. In other words, everything is still readily available, but quick action is required. Because the car may be available, but the question is whether you will be there.
Waiting times for converters
During and after corona, car brands have had delivery problems for quite some time. Chip shortages, inaccessible wiring harnesses and logistical misery. This has now all been caught up with by the brands. But the converters are lagging behind.
Because those cars delivered later are also converted later. The work has also been nicely piled up there and has not always been caught up. If you consider that about 80 percent of larger customers still have to go to the converter, then it is better not to wait until the autumn for that new diesel bus.
This conversion concerns things such as the Dutch tax-friendly double cabin, slat by slat panelling, a loading floor, a refrigerated container or, for example, a furniture container. Also pay attention, because those converters often work for multiple brands, so the availability of the new car says nothing about the waiting time at the converter.
Commercial vehicle without BPM from stock
The smart entrepreneur may think that if I can no longer order my new company car without BPM, then I will look for a stock model. Not a crazy thought. There is certainly something available. Although you will end up in a different circuit.
Large dealer groups such as Hedin Automotive, Van Mossel and Louwman have built up their own stock and also have quite a bit of choice available. Here you can often order a new one from the importer, but they also have their own stock. Although that is ultimately limited.
Then you end up with the unbranded providers who sell what they can get their hands on. Here you will also find quite a few imported commercial vehicles and it is good to keep in mind that you often cannot rely on a manufacturer's warranty from the Dutch importer. So keep that in mind when you arrive at an address like this.
We are curious to see what the sales figures will be this year, but we expect a record! We will see.
