With videoSpakenburg wrote history on Tuesday evening. Chris de Graaf’s team was the first amateur club to score in the semi-finals of the cup tournament, but Dwayne Green’s one goal (1-2) was not enough to reach the final. As a cover for the bleeding, it was a beautiful goal, the maker also agrees.
Sports editorial
“It was a good game for us,” Green explains in front of the ESPN camera. “We were full, that was certainly the intention. We had a good plan, but it’s a pity that PSV’s first goal falls out of a standard situation. You know that PSV is better, but we wanted to make it a real match.”
Everything was taken out of the closet for this. The field was not sprayed and the players of Spakenburg were on it fiercely. ,,You just have to give your all to these kinds of competitions”, explains Greene. ,,We did that.”
After the break, the 0-2 quickly fell and became quieter and quieter at the previously noisy Sportpark De Westmaat. Until Greene got the ball in front of his feet from a corner kick and he left Joël Drommel without a chance with a beautiful long shot. “Don’t think, just shoot. He’s in it pretty well, yes,” says the maker when he looks at the images. Green has not scored a single goal in the past 26 matches. “But this tastes like more. There will undoubtedly be more after this.”
“The ball drops very nicely. I shot a little more with the inside. A Sunday shot? Ha! You can’t say that here, but it does look a bit like it.”
Messy and chaotic
“He didn’t learn that from the trainer,” De Graaf laughs when his pupil’s goal comes up. “I did teach them two other things: playing football according to a plan and with your heart. We did that today We wanted to make it a messy, chaotic match. We succeeded. I am really very proud of the boys,” says the coach, who previously eliminated FC Groningen and FC Utrecht.
,,What an evening”, concludes De Graaf. ,,Of course I’m disappointed, because I really wanted to win here. But later I’m going to enjoy the afterglow with a beer. I thought the best compliment was that André Ramalho had was wasting time against the tiny Spakenburg.”
