Mexico City.- The iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus, naturally, were abandoned by Apple as new equipment and operating systems were announced, but this is no longer the case because they will have their second wind, a cybersecurity update.
On January 23, Apple announced that, in addition to the aforementioned equipment, the iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (sixth generation) devices will receive security patches, which means that their useful life will be extended .
The company specified that this update was implemented to correct the vulnerability called CVE-2022-42856, one of the ‘type confusion’ type located in the Webkit engine, the base platform on which Safari, the browser on Apple computers, is hosted.
‘Type confusion’ can be exploited by cybercriminals by designing malicious websites and remotely executing code on unpatched devices released by Apple.
According to Eset, the execution of arbitrary code would allow a criminal to perform various malicious actions such as executing commands, which compromise credentials, or downloading malware.
This update occurs almost 10 years after the launch of some of the organization’s devices such as the iPhone 5s.
Around Apple computers there is a myth that they are invulnerable to cyber attacks, however this is not the case; It happens that criminal organizations focus on Windows and Android gadgets because they are the ones that people consume the most, which means a higher return on investment.
However, iPhones, Macs and iPads do receive attacks, albeit to a lesser extent, which has caused this false sense of security for their owners.
