Eight children and a primary school teacher were run over by a minibus in Sciacca, in the province of Agrigento. The vehicle, probably left in neutral, hit the pupils attending the fifth grade of the “Mariano Rossi” school, together with their teacher, from behind. A total of nine people were injured, none of them seriously. The children were taking part in a Christmas rally organized by students from another school in the city.
The public prosecutor of Sciacca has opened an investigation into the case, which has entrusted the investigation to the municipal police. Among the hypotheses being examined by the police, the one that the vehicle, parked downhill, moved because it had brake problems or because it had been left in neutral. After the accident, the children were taken to the hospital: one girl suffered a knee injury, while the others suffered minor bruises and grazes which in some cases required stitches.
