The Minister of Agriculture of Chile, Esteban Valenzuela, this Monday (28) intensified his criticism against truck drivers in the country, who started a strike a week ago to demand a reduction in fuel prices and greater safety for the category.
“Get rid of this imbecility that is affecting the country,” said the minister at a press conference.
On Sunday (27), two of the truck drivers’ unions, the National Confederation of Cargo Transport (CNTC) and Fedequinta, had decided to end the strike after reaching an agreement with the government of leftist Gabriel Boric. However, Força do Norte and the Federation of Truckers Centro-Sul decided to continue with the strike.
In recent days, there have been several reports of shortages in Chilean urban centers. “This cannot go unpunished and there can be no mockery [nas negociações]🇧🇷 It has to be objectively, that the greatest efforts have been made in very difficult times to stabilize fuel prices”, said Valenzuela.
The vice-president of Fedequinta, Iván Mateluna, said on Sunday that his union and the CNTC had reached an agreement with the Executive, since “two of the three points” claimed by truck drivers had been met: the appointment of an exclusive prosecutor to investigate thefts and kidnappings suffered by truck drivers and the “stabilization of fuel prices”, even though the reduction of at least 30% required by the category has not been achieved.
