Washington’s Russian star Aleksandr Ovechkin scored the 787th hit of his NHL career and passed league legend Gordie Howe in the statistics, which count the goals scored in the ranks of one club.
Finnish striker Rasmus Kupari returned from AHL hockey to the NHL limelight when the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Florida Panthers 5–4. Kupari, who opened his goal account for the season in the North American major league, tied the match 1–1 in the second period.
The match was the fifth of the season for Kotka’s Titans, Kupari, on the NHL ice. The 22-year-old Finnish forward has played part of the early season in the Ontario Reign team, where, according to the Kings’ website, he has scored three goals and provided three assists in six matches.
“We now have four chains that can score. Many young players have gained more self-confidence”, commented the power 1+1 player Trevor Moore on the NHL website.
In the match we saw another Finnish goalscorer. Panthers Eetu Luostarinen tied the match at 3–3 at the beginning of the third period. The hit was Luostarinen’s fourth of the season. Captain of the Panthers Alexander Barkov scored one assist.
Panthers head coach Paul Maurice Finland’s team’s defensive game, because five goals for themselves is too much. Florida has won just two of its last six games and lost four.
In Los Angeles, the team’s first name had completed two goals Carter Verhaeghe. Keeper Sergei Bobrovsky made 34 saves in his 600th career NHL game.
Canadian striker Jamie Benn became the number one star of the match with his three goals after the Dallas Stars defeated the away Edmonton Oilers 6–2. The hat trick was the seventh of Benn’s NHL career.
The Finns collected assists with the job. Dallas striker Roope Hintz and defender Miro Heiskanen both started with two hits and a defender Jani Hakanpää one. In the ranks of the host team Jesse to Puljujärvi recorded an assist on Edmonton’s second goal.
The Oilers namesake Connor McDavid scored his team’s opening goal with superiority and extended his streak to six games. Ruapea can accommodate seven goals and eight goal assists. McDavid leads the league in points with 25 points (12+13).
