We have taken out our abacus again, to calculate what the starting position will be in the Grand Prix of Italy tomorrow.
It was just another special F1 qualifying for the Netherlands. Two compatriots in the royal class, what a wealth. Moreover, both did well, although a driver always hopes for more. At the end P2 remained for Verstappen and P13 for De Vries. However, we can now inform you that these will not be the starting positions for both of them.
Verstappen moves a few spots down to P7. De Vries, on the other hand, moves up to…P8! The two are right next to each other on the fourth row of the grid. Tikkie in turn one then? Of course we hope not. This has of course to do with all the grid penalties for no fewer than nine drivers. Just for an overview:
- Verstappen and Ocon both receive a five-place penalty.
- Perez gets a ten spot penalty.
- Bottas, Schumacher and Magnussen will receive a 15-place penalty.
- Sainz, Tsunoda and Hamilton receive a ‘back of the grid’ penalty.
After some juggling with numbers, this leads to the following result*:
UPDATE: Previously there was a different order here. However, after long deliberation and much uncertainty, the FIA published the Provisional Grid at 20:55, as the rules from the past apparently no longer apply. The grid will thus look like this:

Whose deed! Make sense…
