Anpe calculates that there will be 500 teachers who will be missing from the classrooms from tomorrow, and Education, which lowers the figure to 200, guarantees that “they will all be on the 12th”
New course, old problems. The last allocations of vacancies for Infant and Primary teachers have been delayed until this week (they will be held from tomorrow), which will delay until Monday the incorporation of dozens of teachers, up to half a thousand, into their positions, according to calculations by the Anpe union, and 200, according to figures handled by the Ministry of Education. The lack of teachers at their posts on the day the school year begins has been a recurrent problem for years in the Region and causes, the unions denounce, the loss of teaching hours and the bewilderment of the students, who will not find their tutor and their reference teachers in the classroom.
The unallocated places correspond to substitution vacancies caused by sick leave, special permits, changes of destination and other reasons that have arisen in recent weeks. The award process will take place tomorrow, but it will not be until Monday when many of the teachers take possession of their destiny.
The delay will not last beyond Monday, guarantees the Ministry of Education, from where they insist that last minute casualties cannot be covered in advance.
The forecast of maximum temperatures of up to 38 degrees also worries teachers
The return to school will be progressive in the different municipalities of the Region (each school council chooses its date) since the Campos del Río school starts today, but the bulk of the students return to the classrooms between tomorrow and Thursday, when they return the children of Murcia and Cartagena.
For the union organization Anpe, it is “essential that the centers open the classrooms with all their staff, for which we have asked the Ministry to convene the award ceremony at the end of August or in the first days of September.”
The teachers denounced yesterday the inconveniences caused by the delay in the adjudication. “It is unfortunate that, despite the continuous criticism and complaints, Education is reiterating itself by proposing a calendar for the allocation of teachers in public education centers that, for sure, will generate important problems,” Anpe denounced, in coincidence with the Association of Principals of Primary Schools.
Teachers are also concerned about the high temperatures expected this week, with maximums of 38 degrees. “It is hell when it comes to being able to carry out teaching tasks and, without a doubt, has a very negative influence on the school performance of students in our Region,” they denounced yesterday from CC OO and Anpe, who once again criticized the delays in the publication of the definitive Lomloe CVs, which do not yet have a date.
The 170 school children of Campos del Río, the first to return to school
The siren that marks the start of classes at nine in the morning will return this morning to the streets of Campos del Río sounds that are life for a town that has been losing neighbors for years: the hubbub of children at recess, entrances and outings, Christmas functions, Carnival parades… The 170 schoolchildren enrolled in the San Juan Bautista school, the first in the entire Region to return to class, are the lifeblood of the town, which has lost population and students since the closure of the school. canning company Halcón Foods almost a decade ago.
The lack of job expectations that has punished the residents of the area since then has been felt in the school, which this year will only welcome twelve new first-year students. “Every year there are fewer children, but the school is maintained and the situation has its advantages,” says the head of studies, who yesterday, with her 17 fellow teachers, prepared the classrooms and the material for the welcome of the little ones.
The attention received by schoolchildren in Campos del Río, with between 12 and 20 students per classroom, depending on the level, is a luxury in times of skyrocketing ratios and overcrowding. “We can give them a personalized treatment, the classes are very useful,” says the head of studies. The college maintains its dining room and library, and all resources are concentrated on the premises; extracurricular activities, support classes… The students of Campos del Río, which maintains a population of just over 2,000 inhabitants, continue their academic life at the Mula institute, as far as they are entitled to free transportation.
