The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was the scene of the last act of the 2022 season of the MotoE World Cup. Among the curves of Romagna we discovered the new champion, and the signing for this season is Dominique Aegerter, who has shown himself solid throughout the year. The Swiss, also leader of the Supersport world rankings, was busy on two fronts but managed to take home a first title (and is a big favorite for the second in the series derivatives).
Aegerter arrived in Misano with the games still open, because Eric Granado, his direct rival in the standings, was determined to stop him, even if the scales hung on the side of the Swiss. The Brazilian, however, immediately throws the chance to undermine the rider Dynavolt, slipping into Race 1 and thus making the world dream fade away. Aegerter only needs a second place to close the games on Saturday afternoon.
However, Italy is also triumphant, with Mattia Casadei getting on the top step of the podium. The driver of the Pons team gets the better of Dominque Aegerter, who is second and thus becomes champion. The Swiss fits in between the two Italians, because Matteo Ferrari completes the podium with the third position, while Jordi Torres, now a former champion, wins the “wooden medal” with fourth place.
The Italian anthem still plays in Race 2. With the championship now mathematically closed, the race that saw the triumph of the first champion in the history of MotoE was staged. Matteo Ferrari in fact imposes himself on Sunday in Misano, giving the fans the emotion of the flag flying on the top step of the podium. Not only that: Italy signs a double because Mattia Casadei, after the triumph of the day before, is second at the finish line by only 195 thousandths. To close the podium is Eric Granado, third but now in vain.
Aegerter is thus the last champion of the Energica era, before the MotoE passes to Ducati from 2023. A chapter is closed and now there is already great anticipation for the next one, all to be written.
