Stateside the former police officer has received a 2.5-year prison sentence for his involvement of George Floyd to death. The death of black Floyd at the hands of the police in May 2020 sparked protests across the United States.
The former Minneapolis police officer, now sentenced to federal prison, was found guilty of “deliberate indifference” to Floyd’s medical needs.
Floyd choked when the officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck, who was handcuffed on the ground, for almost ten minutes. Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Two other police officers present were found to be guilty of willful indifference, like the man who has now been sentenced.
Police arrested Floyd after a shopkeeper accused him of using a counterfeit $20 bill in his store.
