With over 40 years of career, 500 races run and countless successes, including five victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Emanuele Pirro is one of the most successful Italian drivers ever. From today he joins the team of Easyraina start-up founded in 2013 by Giovanni Blandina with the aim of reducing the number of road accident victims and contributing to the achievement of the European goal of zero road deaths by 2050.
Emanuele will make his experience available, assuming the position of Product and Business Developer, dealing with the development and growth of Easyrain from a technical point of view and new business opportunities. “I met Giovanni Blandina and Easyrain in 2019 and I immediately believed a lot in the idea and in the project. We stayed in touch and today the conditions have finally matured to start an effective collaboration. Aquaplaning is a subtle threat to the motorist that is still too underestimated. Easyrain can greatly contribute to increasing road safety and I am proud to be part of it“, Declared the former Formula 1 driver.
Emanuele enriches the Easyrain technical area, directed by CTO Mauro Pierallini, taking care of developing and maturing the Easyrain ecosystem for road safety, which today consists of three development areas. The first area is dedicated to hardware, with the AIS (Aquaplaning Intelligent Solution) system that fights aquaplaning. It is an active safety device, with patented technology, which restores grip and immediately brings the vehicle back into full control of the driver, thanks to a powerful jet of water injected in front of the car’s front wheels. The second generation AIS, more performing, lighter and more compact than the previous one, was developed by Easyrain together with Bosch and Italdesign and will debut in July on a production vehicle; in addition, the AIS will soon be installed for the first time in an SUV.
The second area is dedicated to software. The EDP platform (Easyrain Digital Platform) contains virtual sensors based on the car’s on-board network, combined with Easyrain’s patented algorithms. The first of these sensors is the DAI (Digital Aquaplaning Information), which recognizes aquaplaning and wet road conditions and provides warning messages to the vehicle; these messages can be used by carmakers to enable a wide range of new safety features in the vehicle, including automatic adjustment of adaptive cruise control in the event of a highly wet road surface. The third area is dedicated to the cloud. The ERC (Easyrain Cloud) expands and enhances the capabilities of AIS hardware systems and EDP software, provides extended analytics and new services for car manufacturers and driving safety agencies.
