The 2022 Monaco Grand Prix will be remembered for Sergio Perez’s first victory in the Principality and for the fight between Red Bull and Ferrari, with the Maranello house betrayed by the strategic mistakes that cost a possible victory for Charles Leclerc. Waiting for a communication on the official final classification, which will be confirmed only after the analysis of the Race Direction on the possible irregularity of Perez and Verstappen in the exit from the pit lane – thanks to the limit that separates the track crossed by the two Red Bulls – remains however certain another performance by applause of George Russell.
The Mercedes driver, in addition to having closed again in front of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, has in fact imposed himself as ‘first’ of the pursuers of Red Bull and Ferrari, with a 5th place which confirms his state of excellent form also against the seven-time world champion, who finished only 8th and blocked by the two Alpines of Alonso and Ocon: “Fifth position, we did it – commented a beaming Russell – it was hard; I have to say that the FIA made an excellent choice for the delayed start, because I think they realized the time was coming and that the conditions were not ideal when we did the first laps. Subsequently, with the second red flag and with the track that was gradually drying, it was not easy anyway. There are many positive aspects to be considered: I believe that with hard rubber, before the interruption of the race – decreed for Schumacher’s accident, ed – we were there fastest car on the trackit was a really fun stint and a bit close to Norris at the pit exit ”.
Thanks to this performance once again from the applause of the former Williams driver, the latter maintains fourth place in the world championship standings ahead of Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari and Hamilton, 33 points ahead of us waiting for the next GP, scheduled between two weeks in Baku – 10, 11 and 12 June – for the Azerbaijani Grand Prix.
