The Carlos Prates metro station in Belo Horizonte was the scene of an absurd fight between a young man dressed as ‘Spiderman’ and another individual who claimed to be ‘Batman’. The incident, which occurred last Saturday night, was recorded by witnesses and quickly went viral on social media.
According to the criteria of
David Alan, a 25-year-old actor who works in events dressed as a superhero, said he was returning from a work engagement when a man began interacting with him aggressively.
“I was interacting with a boy, until the perpetrator of the attacks arrived. He also started interacting with me, but with somewhat disjointed words. Then, at that moment, I released my web, a thread that comes out of my launcher, and he interpreted it as a double entendre, telling me to go out with my web,” David explained. According to his account, the attacker identified himself as ‘Batman’ and accused David of provoking him.
The situation quickly escalated when the supposed ‘Batman’ physically attacked David, breaking the glass of his mask with a punch and a kick. In self-defense, the young man responded and in the struggle, both fell onto the subway tracks.
“The guy came from the end of the platform super aggressive and said again: ‘If you’re Spider-Man, I’m Batman’. Then he punched me, kicked me and punched me in the face. With the punch, the glass of my mask instantly broke,” the victim recounted.
It took the intervention of three security guards to control the attacker, who claimed to have psychiatric problems and was taken to an emergency unit for evaluation.
Despite the violence of the encounter, David Alan said he will continue to use his costume to bring joy to children and adults in the city. “It’s my job. I like dressing up as Spider, it brings joy to children. Even adults, people when they come home from work, with their heads full, and see Spiderman, they show solidarity. “I’m not going to let anyone get in the way of my work,” he said.
The Civil Police of Belo Horizonte took statements from both involved and a detailed report of events was drawn up. Both were released with the commitment to appear before a Specialized Criminal Court at a later date. So far, the metro company has not issued any comments on the incident.
