Tiago Monteiro has returned to Portugal to continue his treatment in hospital after the bacterial chest infection reported before the last FIA WTCR event.
The Honda Racing driver was hospitalized last Saturday in the infectious disease ward of the Krasnodar region hospital, after arriving at Sochi Autodrom to race in the Civic Type R built by JAS Motorsport he felt ill.
Immediately hospitalized, the Portuguese had reassured everyone with a post and some photos on social media, claiming to be improving.
On Wednesday evening, Honda announced in a press release that a private flight was organized for the ALL-INKL.DE Münnich Motorsport driver with the support of the team, JAS Motorsport, Discovery Sports Events (WTCR promoter), FIA, Rosgonki (organizer of the races in Russia) and Honda, in order to be able to return home and continue the therapies in Porto.
“After five days of treatment by the medical staff at the hospital in Russia, to whom I am very grateful for taking care of me, I am returning to Portugal to continue the treatments,” says Monteiro.
“I would like to thank everyone who helped organize my return home, as well as those who supported me while I was in the hospital.”
