Eve“We live quite close to each other. So we put our agendas side by side: shall we fix that we have one day off a week together? That we can also do something? That became Wednesday.”
anouk: “If we didn’t have that day, we’d never see each other.”
Eve: “We are good friends and we just missed each other. It’s nice to know that we can go to the movies on Wednesday, or go for a walk in the Drunense Duinen. And we both have an Efteling subscription. We don’t want to plan life to the full, but it happens anyway.”
anouk: “A little more with me than with you. Eef can relax well. He can sit on the couch and watch TV. I have a studio upstairs in my living room and I’m always making something. I like to put together gifts for people.”
Eve: “You are the creative one in that regard.”
anouk: „You are very good at writing and cooking. In October we celebrated our birthday together. Halloween style.”
Eve: “We’re not going to overdo it, we said.”
anouk: “And two weeks in advance we saw that it had gotten out of hand. We had a whole haunted house built in the house. We complement each other.”
Eve: „I always see a lot of problems. Then my day is ruined. Anouk is very solution-oriented.”
anouk: “And I find it difficult to talk about feelings. Eef can pull it out of me a bit. I think this cohabitation works well because we both have our own space. Me upstairs and Eefje downstairs.”
Eve: “We both have our own kitchen. We share the bathroom and toilet. And we have the same idea about what is clean.”
Student house
anouk: “When I have to work, my alarm goes off at half past seven.”
Eve: “I generally try to get out of bed by 9am and usually I succeed. I work in the hospitality industry.”
anouk: „Me as a salesman in the snowboard department at a very large camping store. You’re always talking about vacation. And snowboarding is my passion. I work four days. I’m usually home around 7 o’clock.”
Eve: “The catering industry is normal evening work. I am free more often during the day. I usually work from 12 to 9 am, or from 4 to close. When I come back from such a day, I am usually tired, I just want to lie on the couch. I prefer not to plan anything after work.”
anouk: “Sometimes a little chat.”
Eve: “Cup of tea, catch up.”
anouk: „We have been living together for almost a year now. There were also other people living in the house before that.”
Eve: „It really was such a glorified student house. Nobody cleaned up their mess. Always a little dirty.”
anouk: „When the last roommate left, we went to talk to the landlord. We wanted to sit here with the two of us.”
Eve: “We would fix up the house and make it beautiful, and in return we could live for a little less rent.”
anouk: „We met about eight years ago at the art academy. We smoked cigarettes during the break.”
Eve: “I remember when we started talking. I came out and asked Anouk for a lighter, and she had a lighter case of a naked man.”
anouk: “We still have that case, even though we don’t smoke anymore.”
anouk: „It is the mascot of our friendship. I am very happy that I did that training because it enabled me to meet Eef. But we both stopped prematurely.”
Eve: “It was very stressful and just not fun. Nothing was good enough, in my case.”
anouk: “Me too.”
Eve: “You have to have a very thick skin for that, and I’m a soft-boiled egg.”
Eve: „When my mother became ill and passed away, I said to Anouk: ‘I am going to ask you something very serious. Do you want to experience it with me? I wasn’t in a relationship at the time, but my brothers and sisters were. You have to tell someone. I said she could think about it, but she said yes right away. She often accompanied my mother when she was in a bad position. My brother had already passed away. Anouk her brother too.”
anouk: “That was intense.”
Eve: “Yes damn it. We’ve been through quite a bit of shit together.”
Alone for a while
anouk: „I also think it is important that you can say to each other if you live together: now I want to be alone for a while. When Eef’s door is closed, I know: I don’t have to disturb it. Or there must be something with me, then it is always possible. I think that makes our friendship strong. That we can say: I just don’t feel like you. That’s not possible in every friendship.”
Eve: “I find it hard to imagine that we no longer live together.”
anouk: „I often think about moving, because I also have a whole life with friends and family in North Holland, where I come from. But if I go north, I miss Eef.”
Eve: “If we stopped living together, our friendship wouldn’t fall apart.”
anouk: “I even think we’ll see each other more often. Now it is often fast in between. Then it is: I go out to dinner with Eef and then we have the whole evening together.”
Eve: “I have friendships where I think: if I move to another city, we’ll see each other a few more times and it will fade. We really don’t.”
anouk: “We have made so many memories in those eight years that it is not really possible.”
