What to do if you win the lottery?
For those lucky lottery winners, being selected is just the first step toward obtaining permanent residency in the United States. The process involves completing an immigrant visa application through the DS-260 form online, presenting a valid passport and accurately answering all required questions. At this point, the Department of State recommends that each person should complete this form personally and not resort to an agency or third party.
Applicants will then receive an appointment for an interview at the United States embassy or consulate in their country of origin or residence and a consular officer will evaluate the application and determine if it is approved.
If a person was not selected, can they reapply?
People who were not selected on this occasion have the option of reapplying in the next call.
It is important to note that this program offers a limited number of visas each year for people who meet certain requirementsthese include:
- Be a citizen of a country with a low immigration rate to the US.
- Have 12 years of primary and secondary education or its equivalent.
- Complete at least two years of work experience, within the last five years, in an eligible occupation.
