Yellowstone National Park, located between the states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, is one of the largest in North America. The ecosystem was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.
Every year, thousands of Americans visit the place that is made up of lakes, rivers, canyons, and mountain ranges. The lake consists of a series of hot springs located in the Yellowstone volcano, an inactive crater that is among the largest in the world.

On Wednesday, August 17, a park employee was in for a surprise when he found something strange. It was a loose shoe with a mutilated foot inside.
The worker notified the authorities, who closed a part of the place and prohibited the use of parking lots while they carried out the investigation.
The discovery was made in the Abyss Pool hot springs, located in the West Thumb Geyser Basin, south of the park. This point is one of the hottest on the site, the waters of the crater reach 60 degrees centigrade and have a depth of 16 meters. Experts indicate that the liquid can cause burns.

The national park published a statement about what happened. Yellowstone representatives stated that they are already working with the police to clarify the facts.
“The ground in hydrothermal areas is brittle and thin, and there is boiling water just below the surface,” the paper said.
In 2021, Yellowstone welcomed more than 4.8 million visitors. The authorities insisted that people be careful at the site and avoid going off the marked trails. The extension of the place is about nine thousand square kilometers.

In the summer of 2021 the park suffered major flooding.
What happened?
Although the investigation has not concluded, the park representatives gave a piece of calm by pointing out that it would not be a crime. The investigations indicate that it would have been an accidental death in one of the boiling water wells.

“Evidence from the investigation thus far suggests that an incident involving a person likely occurred on the morning of July 31, 2022 at Abyss Pool,” the park said.
This is not the first time that incidents or even deaths have occurred at the site. In 2016, a young man died after slipping and falling into one of the hot springs.
The case reached great national relevance due to the circumstances surrounding the death. His body could never be recovered because it would have dissolved in the acidic water, which can reach temperatures of 90 degrees.
In 2021 two people were injured with serious burns after falling into the wells. Fortunately, both were quickly removed and recovered.
According to reports from the ‘AP’ news agency, since 1890, 22 people have died in the Yellowstone hot springs.
