This Wednesday marks Ukraine’s Independence Day, a commemoration that has taken on special importance this year after the Russian invasion in February.
We have stood firm for six months. It’s hard, but we have clenched our fists and fight for our destiny
As usual, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, sent a message to the citizens, which on this occasion was especially moving, as the Ukrainians have already been through six months of war.
“We don’t care about the army they have, we only care about our land. We will fight for her until the end (…) We have stood firm for six months. It’s hard, but we have clenched our fists and fight for our destinyZelensky declared in a video.
“For us Ukraine is all of Ukraine. The 25 regions, without any concessions or compromises (…) What is the end of the war for us? Before we said ‘peace’. Now we say ‘victory’. We are not going to try to get along with Russian terrorists,” he concluded in his speech.
