The Ukrainian public prosecutor's office says it is aware of 54 cases in which Russian soldiers are said to have shot Ukrainian prisoners of war. A total of 27 criminal proceedings have been initiated, said the head of the public prosecutor's department responsible for war crimes, Yuri Belousov, according to a message on Telegram on Tuesday. The latest case is based on a video that became known on Sunday from the town of Krynky in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine.
The first shooting of a Ukrainian prisoner of war was recorded in March 2022. There is already a court ruling on a shooting case in the Chernihiv region of northern Ukraine about a Russian soldier. In most cases, however, the investigation is made more difficult by the fact that Ukrainian investigators have no access to the location or the body.
