During a campaign rally, Donald Trump accused Moscow of stealing important construction plans. Putin’s spokesman reacted immediately.
Washington/Moscow – Donald Trump claimed during an election campaign in the US state of New Hampshire on Tuesday that Russia had stolen the blueprints for a “super-duper missile” a few years ago when his predecessor Barack Obama was in office. An official Kremlin spokesman from Moscow rejected the allegations on the same day. No plans for hypersonic missiles were stolen, an official comment said.
Trump accuses Russia of stealing “super-duper missile” – Moscow denies statement
Former US President Trump gave a public speech in New Hampshire on Tuesday as part of his campaign for the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Several US media outlets recorded the speech and broadcast it online. In addition to numerous domestic and foreign policy issues, Trump accused Russia of, among other things, stealing the blueprint for a secret hypersonic missile. “Russia has ‘super-duper missiles.’ They fly super fast. They stole secret blueprints and built them,” the Belarusian independent news agency quoted Nexta the former president. He went on to say that this happened during the administration of President Barack Obama. Obama was in office from 2009 to 2017.
Moscow did not want to leave Trump’s accusation uncommented on Tuesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, also said on Tuesday that Russia never stole the blueprints and has its own hypersonic missiles. “We have our own rocket, an excellent rocket,” Peskov told the state news agency Tass. “It’s hard for me to say whether our rocket fits Mr. Trump’s term ‘super-duper,’ but it is a good rocket that has no competitors in the world at the moment. And there’s not just one,” he added. Meanwhile, Putin’s “miracle weapon” has apparently already been shot down in the Ukraine war, as Ukraine announced in May.
“Super-duper missile” stolen from USA? Putin and Trump known for false statements
The fastest hypersonic missiles in the world are said to be owned by Russia and China. In 2020, Trump announced that he would develop a new, fastest rocket in the world. US forces would work to ensure that the missile can fly 17 times faster than missiles currently in the US arsenal and also three times as fast as the fastest missiles from other countries, including Russia and China. Even back then, Trump spoke of a “super-duper missile” regarding his project. At the time, however, he did not talk about the building plans that had allegedly been stolen beforehand.
Both statements cannot be independently verified. While the USA has already described Putin’s spokesman Peskov as a “top purveyor of Putin’s propaganda” in the past and the information from the Kremlin cannot be independently confirmed, Trump is also repeatedly accused of making false statements. Specifically on Tuesday, the US broadcaster BBC refuted numerous statements that the ex-president made in New Hampshire. He falsely claimed that there had been no terrorist attacks in the United States during his presidency. He is also said to have falsely accused Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley of originally wanting to “flood” the United States with refugees from the Gaza Strip. (nz)
