Travel agents in Greece said that Russians may face Russophobia in the country
Representatives of the tourism industry, whose clients have recently vacationed in Greece, commented on the rumors about a wave of Russophobia sweeping the country. They told about this in an article for Lenta.ru.
So, some experts are sure that the harassment of Russians in European resorts is a myth or isolated cases, while others believe that domestic travelers traveling abroad have something to beware of.
“I don’t see the mass nature of the hate in Greece. Tourists travel in transit and rest calmly, we have no such experience. On the contrary, hoteliers are craving tourists from Russia, they are sad about the situation,” Maya Kotlyar, owner of a travel agency, said.

Her words were confirmed by Anna, one of the organizers of individual tours of the premium segment in the Mediterranean, noting that none of her clients complained about Russophobia. “To be honest, I even find it hard to believe that a contingent vacationing in luxury hotels can offend you because of your nationality,” she admitted.
At the same time, the owner of a travel company in the Greek resort of Corfu, Tatiana, warned her compatriots that there is a risk of aggression outside the tourist areas. “There were publications in the local media that in the market a woman sprinkled pepper gas in the face of a couple of Russians because they spoke Russian to each other,” the expert complained. “There were several cases on the embankment in the city when Russian women were pushed and insulted for speaking Russian.”
At the same time, the owner of the bureau of individual excursions in Athens, Natalia, drew attention to the fact that “you can run into an inadequate person” not only in Greece, but also in any other country. “Often everything is limited to a verbal altercation, but there are egregious cases when it comes to fights and damage to property,” she added.
Earlier in June, Russian Ambassador to Greece Andrey Maslov said that the country currently has an unfavorable climate for Russians to relax. Maslov also added that he was aware of cases of threats against Russian citizens – the victims, according to him, regularly call the embassy.
