This Wednesday, the National Police made a final assessment of the mass brawl between stallholders that broke out on Tuesday afternoon at a school near the Santiago Bernabéu, in the district of Chamartín. Although initially the detainees were estimated at 25 last night, the figure finally rises to no less than 32.
The fight broke out after nine at night for reasons that are unknown, although police sources suggest that the spark jumped during the placement of the attractions and inflatables that were being prepared to celebrate the festivities at the San Agustín school, in the Father Damian Street. Several members of one family clashed with those of another and a brawl broke out on public roads. Some of those involved carried knives with which they were seen on the street. Objects were also thrown, such as metal bars, and some of them hit parked cars.
The police speak of “numerous knives and numerous sticks and iron bars that were seized by the officers.” A total of 32 individuals were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime of rioting and more than 60 people were identified. In addition, 11 people were injured. Five of those treated by Samur suffered injuries caused by stab weapons. The most serious is a 34-year-old man who had a knife stabbed in his abdomen and had to be transferred to the La Paz hospital in potentially serious condition.
Another of those injured by a knife suffers an amputation of a phalanx, another had the semi-amputation of two other fingers on one hand, another has a puncture in the thigh and the fifth received a stab in the back. The rest of the wounded suffered bruises and lacerations.
The conflict provoked extensive police deployment, which had to disperse the crowd and separate both sides, and also caused alarm in the area, which in the morning had already been shaken by a gas leak in the parking lot works at the football field.
