At this point in the week it is difficult for someone not to have found out that, after the success of The Eras Tour in America, Asia and Oceania, Taylor Swift is in Europe with the show that covers her entire career and the different “era’s” that make it up (that’s what she calls each of her albums). The first stop of the tour is taking place in Paris, where on the second night of the four scheduled, yesterday, he surprised with a set that he had not yet performed on any of the other continents and that will foreseeably take all of his dating in the Old World. This set is the one dedicated to her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. Despite the lukewarm reception that critics have given to this work, or perhaps because of it, the artist has put all her effort into presenting it live.
Swift has placed this new segment of the show right after the space dedicated to 1989 and there have been several surprises. The first has to do with the purely musical: she has played acoustic versions of seven songs, including the album’s first single, “Fortnight” and “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” in which the singer makes a kind of review and tribute to her life on stage. Although the most striking novelty had to do with the costumes: with images of the music videos corresponding to this new work in the background, the singer debuted a spectacular uniform created especially for the occasion by the team of the British brand Vivienne Westwood (the designer died last year, so it is understood that the work is the work of Andreas Kronthaler’s workshop). The outfit consisted of a white party dress with a bustier body type body with whales that showed a black bra at the edges of the neckline. Of clear Victorian inspiration, like many of the designs from this house, the dress included a spectacular asymmetrical skirt that revealed one leg.

The most striking thing about the design was the fact that handwritten lines by Swift herself appeared printed on the fabric of the skirt that corresponded to the lyrics of her songs. Specifically, a line from the song Fortnight was perfectly distinguishable that says: “I love you. “You are ruining my life.” In reality, the composition of the dress and the way the fabric was placed imitated the shape of wrinkled pages after writing poetry on them. In fact, typewriters and manuscripts are key elements in the aesthetic of the singer’s new album. The look was completed with white lace-up ankle boots and a double-strand choker with Westwood’s signature symbol, the orb. During her performance, Swift also sported a white hussar jacket with studs on the shoulder pads.

The presence of big names in fashion at the American singer’s shows is not new: on this tour she was seen wearing Versace bodies, Alberta Ferretti dresses and Christian Louboutin boots. The tribute to Westwood, the British designer par excellence, was the surprise she had in store for the European public.
