The social network TikTok on April 24 called the law on its possible ban in the United States unconstitutional and announced its readiness to defend its rights in court.
“We believe that the facts and the law are clearly on our side and we will ultimately prevail. The fact is, we have invested billions of dollars to ensure data security in the US and protect our platform from outside influence and manipulation,” TikTok said on social network X (formerly Twitter).
The social network also said that the ban would “destroy 7 million companies and deprive 170 million Americans of their voices.” At the same time, TikTok, while challenging the unconstitutionality of the ban, intends to continue to invest and innovate on its platform.
Earlier that day, US President Joe Biden signed a bill passed by both houses of the US Congress, part of which is the initiative to ban TikTok if the company that owns it, ByteDance, does not sell its US division of the social network within nine months. TikTok executive director Shaw Tzu Chu, in turn, said that the company expects to win the lawsuit to block the law, reports Reuters.
On April 19, American entrepreneur and owner of the social network X, Elon Musk, spoke out against blocking TikTok in the United States. He emphasized that the TikTok ban is contrary to the principles of freedom of speech and expression. Before this, on March 12, Musk predicted increased censorship in the United States if TikTok was banned in the country.
