This is a moment. You could always recognize BMWs in addition to their kidneys (the two-piece grille) by the shape of the headlights and, in the past fifteen years, certainly also by the daytime running lights. Those last two things now get trickier. Or at least you have to switch. With the electric iX, BMW already seemed to be going in a different direction with the design of the headlights, but with the X7 they give the steering wheel a tug. The cream of the BMW X7 facelift is what it will be like from now on at the German brand.
The headlamps are now in two parts with the LED daytime running lights in the upper portion. The lower parts are actually the main headlights. What do we think? Well. The X7 was not a subtle thing and if there is one car that can have a pronounced front, it is this one. The days when BMW’s were classic beauties are permanently over, that’s for sure. You better get used to it, because you will see the design on more BMWs. The 7 Series is likely next.
BMW has also made some questionable choices in the interior. They removed buttons for a minimalist look, but that’s why there are now some blanks. You set the air conditioning via the on-board computer. Fortunately, we still see an iDrive button. The screen on the dashboard is 14.9 inches, by the way. Good news is that the X7 is still a seven-seater and air suspension is standard on the huge thing.
The engines of the BMW X7 facelift
The total range of the new BMW X7 consists of three engines. The blue one in the pictures is the M60i xDrive. It has the well-known 4.4-liter V8 with 530 hp and 750 Nm. It is not certain whether it will come to the Netherlands. A little less exaggerated is the xDrive40i. This uses a six-in-line for 380 hp and 520 Nm. A mild hybrid system adds 20 Nm when needed. Dieselaars go for the xDrive40d with 352 hp and 720 Nm.
The BMW X7 facelift is the brand’s first car to be delivered from the factory with 23-inch wheels. By comparison, the first M3 was on 15-inchers. The prices for the Netherlands are still unknown. It should appear in the showrooms in December of this year
