Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov: NATO’s plans to include Finland and Sweden threaten Russia
Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, outlined two new threats to Russia’s military security. In his opinion he shared in an interview with Arguments and Facts.
Today, such threats are the aspirations of the North Atlantic Alliance to expand at the expense of Finland and Sweden, as well as the use of Ukraine as a tool for waging a hybrid war against our country.
According to Gerasimov, in order to neutralize these threats, the leadership set the task of adjusting the Plan for the Construction and Development of the Armed Forces.

“Opposition to the Collective West”
Modern Russia has not yet encountered such intensity of hostilities as during the period of the special operation in Ukraine, Gerasimov believes. In addition, the Russian Armed Forces are forced to confront almost all countries of the collective West, the head of the General Staff noted.

In an interview, Gerasimov also said that the personnel of the General Staff are taking all measures to achieve the goals of the special operation, as well as to ensure the country’s military security.

Army readiness
According to the chief of the General Staff, partial mobilization in Russia was carried out in order to stabilize the situation and protect the new territories of Russia.
Gerasimov acknowledged that the mobilization training system was not fully adapted to modern economic relations, and this had to be corrected on the go.
As a result of the well-coordinated and professional actions of the officers of the General Staff, in cooperation with the authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, 300 thousand citizens who were in the reserve were called up for military service.
The special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called it the main task of protecting the inhabitants of Donbass. On September 21, partial mobilization began in Russia – on October 28, its completion was announced.
