A joint operation by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet, the internal security service, has allowed the recovery of the body of three people kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, when Palestinian terrorists assaulted southern Israel and murdered to 1,400 people. One of the bodies found is that of Oryon Hernandez-Redoux, the boyfriend of the young German woman Shani Louk. The images of this young woman, half-naked, unconscious and without the terrorists stopping hitting her and spitting on her in the back of a pickup truck, became an icon of the barbarism that was unleashed on the day of the attack on Israel.
Oryon Hernandez-Redoux, 30, and Shani Louk, 22, had traveled together to the Nova peace festival, held in the town of Reim and where one of the first attacks by Hamas terrorists took place. Many of them arrived at the concert venue on motorized paragliders and there began to open fire on the young people. Subsequently, other activists from Gaza drove to the site and continued the massacre there, carried out rapes and later kidnapped survivors, many of them wounded.
Shani Louk became an icon of that horror. The images of her that showed her unconscious while they harassed and insulted her went around the world. Both she and her boyfriend disappeared into Gaza’s network of tunnels, along with almost 250 other hostages. Three weeks after this attack, the Israeli Army revealed that Shani was dead because they had found remains of her skull. According to the Tel Aviv Government, the woman was beheaded after being shot in the back of the head. However, there was no information about her boyfriend, a young French-Mexican man who lived in the Central American country.
News linked to the couple’s kidnapping began to appear in dribs and drabs in the Israeli press. One of the news that spread in November was that one of Shani’s kidnappers died in a confrontation with Israeli security forces. Since that date, the case took a back seat, given the intensity of the Israeli attacks in Gaza. In January, the mother of the missing young man, Marie-Pascale Radoux, a painter living in Toulouse, released a statement asking Hamas to “take care” of her son, because she had been having health problems for years.
A week ago, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari confirmed that a special operation had managed to recover the body of Shani Louk, along with that of two other kidnapped people, also murdered. Regarding these two corpses, Hagari assured that Hamas was trying to pretend that they were still alive to “make them appear as hostages in the negotiations.” Although it is not officially known how these bodies were rescued, it has been reported in various Israeli media that they were in a tunnel dug by Hamas in the Jabaliya refugee camp and that they were recovered after intense combat.
121 kidnapped
Operations to recover the bodies continued. In one of them, the circumstances of which are still unknown, a military unit accompanied by Sin Bet agents located three bodies of hostages. One of them was Oryon Hernández-Redoux. At the moment it is unknown when he was dead and under what circumstances his body was located.
The discovery of the body of Shani Louk’s boyfriend was communicated to his family in France. President Emmanuel Macron released a statement in which he expressed his condolences to his family and assured that his Government is committed to rescuing French citizens still in the power of Hamas. According to the Israeli Army, of the 250 people that Hamas kidnapped on October 7, 121 remain in its power. Of them, 37 are known to be dead.
