The closing ceremony began with the arrival of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, who was received by Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation, Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Ruler’s Office, Sheikha Nawar bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, and Abdullah Muhammad Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Muhammad Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department, Dr. Khaled Omar Al Midfa, President of Sharjah Media City (Shams), and a number of senior government officials, representatives of diplomatic missions and a group of artists and participants.
His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, honored the winners of the awards of the fifth session of the Sharjah Film Platform, where he won the award for the best feature film, “Qadah, a second life,” directed by Anis Aswad. The film “The Break,” directed by Naveed Nekah Azad, received an honorable mention in the feature film category.
The film “The Copacabana Papers” directed by Fernando Portapalis won the award for the best experimental film, while the film “How to Reflect a Spell: The Promise of the Archives” directed by Yasmine Ben Abdallah won the award for the best experimental film, while the honorary tribute went to the film “Growing up” by Directed by Yaroslav Bulavin.
In the documentary category, “Tributaries of the Amazon” won the award for the best long documentary film directed by Alvaro Sarmiento, Diego Sarmiento and Terry Tomsto, and the film “Twenty Pounds a Month” directed by Hassan Ayman won the award for the best documentary short film, while the honorary tribute went to this category. For the movie “As I want” directed by Samaher El Kady.
Samiha bint Saeed Alawi was honored with the Participatory Forum Award, and during the closing ceremony, a documentary film of the most prominent cinematographic works participating in the fifth session of the Sharjah Film Platform was shown.
Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation, gave a speech in which she said, “Today we welcome you to the closing ceremony of the Sharjah Film Platform, which we are holding to celebrate the artists and directors working in the independent cinema sector and the film industry, hoping that you have enjoyed the platform’s performances in its fifth session, which presented this This year, more than 30 regional and international films were released, in addition to hosting many dialogue sessions, qualitative initiatives and musical performances that were included in the festival.”
Sheikha Hoor addressed the platform’s goals and efforts over the past years, saying, “Since its launch in 2018, the Sharjah Film Platform has formed a supportive pillar for emerging artists and a destination for international filmmakers, and the growing development of the festival year after year is an indication of Sharjah Art Foundation’s commitment to promoting cultural mobility. He praised the unlimited interest of the Emirate of Sharjah in culture in various fields and work to advance the youth by organizing many events and forums, which made it a cultural city that has weight on the regional and global cultural map, and a permanent forum for exchanging experiences and developing talents.
In his speech, Adel Ali, CEO of Air Arabia, referred to the strategic partnership with the Sharjah Art Foundation, which provides the opportunity for young people to showcase their talents on the one hand, and for the public to view and explore cinematic arts on the other hand, and thanked and appreciated the Foundation for providing the opportunity to cooperate and sponsor this important event.
