Despite the fact that an EV is superior, sports car buyers are apparently not interested in it at all.
Ultimately, the intention is for the entire automotive industry to switch to new drive concepts. Electric in the short term, hydrogen for certain applications and then of course there is the very, very, very best solution: just enjoy cycling. Driving less is the only thing that will make a difference. But yes, apparently we all really enjoy being stuck in the same traffic jam. They all start at the office at 8:30 am and leave promptly at 5:00 pm to be in time for the spuds, sprouts and pork chop.
Such a bourgeois attitude to life obviously does not suit the Aston Martin driver. He does everything in his own time. This also includes switching to electricity. Aston Martin itself is quite clear about that. The British don't make excited quotes about sustainability, green fingers or heat stress. No, at Aston Martin they follow the demand of that clientele and it is clear: only if there is plastic in their caviar will they vote GroenLinks.
Sports car buyers don't want an electric car
And it turns out, sports car buyers are not interested in an EV at all! They just don't want that. So Aston Martin doesn't want that either. They have therefore delayed the introduction date of their electric car by two years! The brand's first EV was intended to come onto the market in 2025, but now the introduction has been postponed until at least 2027. Instead, Aston Martin is investing in plug-in hybrids.

In contrast to the Dutch government, Lawrence Stroll still sees a major role for the PHEV. According to Lance's father, the PHEV technology is certainly one that can be used for a long time. Aston Martin has developed an EV platform and has four cars already designed: a GT, crossover, SUV and mid-engine sports car.
Politicians want EVs, not customers
So they won't be coming for a while, because according to Lawrence Stroll, the hype about electric cars has been fueled by politicians, but not by customers. Ultimately, they have to buy the cars. That is an image that we see with more brands that have launched an electric model line in a short time: they are sold far too few, while the development costs are sky-high. Demand in the higher segment is also even lower than in the middle segment.
By the way, you don't have to be afraid of PHEVs. Lawrence Stroll knows that people in this segment are not looking for a three- or four-cylinder humming toll with a gigantic electric motor. You shouldn't expect a V6 either, that's too bourgeois. No, Aston Martin applies PHEV technology in such a way that the V8 engines meet the emission requirements. There will also be twelve-cylinders with electric assistance.
What else is on the agenda?
Then the planning for Aston Martin. The updated Aston Martin V8 Vantage will soon be available in dealers. A facelift is planned for the DBX and a completely new replacement is waiting in the wings for the DBS. You can bet that an extra heavy variant will be based on the DB12:

Then of course it is now time for the oh-so-important and now famous Autoblog Nuance. Because what do we think of this now? Well, Aston Martin's honesty is to be commended. Especially for driver's cars, such a large combustion engine with many cylinders is a major part of the experience, which you simply do not have with an electric motor.
Disadvantage
On the other hand, if Aston Martin comes up with EVs when there really is no other option, the brand will be at a significant disadvantage. Take Porsche as an example, which shows with the Taycan that you can still have a lot of fun with an electric car.
Porsche will also have a significant lead in about ten years. Especially because Aston Martin plans not to launch the technology that is currently available until a few years from now.
